Taking Care of Your Body

Taking Care of Your Body

Have you ever taken the time to study human anatomy and movement? It is incredibly fascinating.

When I first started working as a trainer I confess that I knew little about how the body worked; I only knew how to perform simple exercises. However, I was passionate about fitness and eager to learn.

As I have expanded my business I have taken it upon myself to study human anatomy and movement so that I can better serve my clients, help them avoid injury, and become more fit. And holy cow! The more I study the more I realize I don't know.

Your body is this incredible out of this world machine. It has a skeleton. In order to hold that skeleton together you have ligaments. In order to make it functional different parts of your skeleton have specific muscles that help it perform desired actions. Those muscles would be useless if it were not for your nerves that innervate all throughout your body to communicate to your muscles the action you want to take. And that's just scratching the surface. Isn't that wonderful and amazing?

I love the human body. I am in awe of its capabilities and how wonderful it truly is.

Your body came from somewhere. You may believe it comes from the universe, that it evolved from other life forms, or that it comes from a higher power. Whatever you believe one fact remains the same. If you want your body to run well, you have to perform maintenance on it.

If you think of other machines, such as a car, there are certain tasks that are necessary to keep the machine running smoothly. You need to put gas in the car regularly. Oil needs to be changed. Even just keeping it clean shows that you care about your vehicle. A good diet, regular exercise, good hygiene habits, etc. help you maintain a well run body.

Obviously there are exceptions. Despite our best efforts our bodies show wear and tear. We get sick, we have pain, we all get older. But, that doesn't mean we can't appreciate our body and do everything we can to take care of it.

That is what Big Goat Fitness is all about. We are here to help you on your quest to keep your body as well maintained as it can be so that it doesn't become a hindrance to you enjoying your everyday life. We do exercises that help you become stronger and more fit so that you can enjoy your body to it's fullest capabilities.

My invitation this week is simple. Look at your life and ask yourself, "How can I show more appreciation for my body this week?" And then go and do it! Take care of your machine.
